To say the “Winners Have Scars” fight card was entertaining would be a massive understatement to say the least. The 6-bout card featured real blood and guts fighters with only one fighter, Santander Silgado, 19-0 from Columbia touting a spotless record! The rest of the Boxers featured were all very skilled and serious pugilists taking what’s perceived as the “hard road” approach to their careers, not everyone can be handled by a Golden Boy or equivalent promoter and we commend Tommy Gallagher and Rich Komissar for giving the fans what they really want, Real Boxing! With that said, Sweet Science fighters, “Iron” Dan Crabtree and Dominique “Daimyo” Foster contributed greatly to the success of the show by putting on incredible performances to great fan fare. The night started with “Iron” Dan Crabtree, 2(2KO)-3 of Hilliard, OH vs the debuting “Irish” Danny Terrill of Long Island, New York. Terrill’s debut was evidently highly anticipated by his fans as “Irish” Danny’s ring entrance of bag pipes and raucous fans hurling insults and expletives toward the Hilliard fighter threatened to derail his concentration and insure Terrill of a successful debut-this however was not to be. From the on set Crabtree (sporting a deceptive 1-3 record at the time of the bout) displayed amazing head movement and ring savy by controlling his opponent Terrill with sound boxing. Terrill, being cornered by the legendary Tommy Gallagher, seemed to try and box with “Iron” Dan to no avail. :10 seconds into the second round Crabtree appears to drop Terrill with a left hook, right hook combination that had the New York fighter sprawling backward, referee Samuel Viruet gave no credit for the knockdown and waved on the action. Terrill became frustrated in the second round by the Hilliard fighter’s tight defense and onslaught of hard and vicious punches. “Irish” Danny apparently resorted to plan B which evidently was to rough up the younger fighter by pinning him to ropes in a “throw caution to the wind” kind of approach throwing a multitude of blows with most missing their mark, with Terrill being countered with hard uppercuts and hooks from Crabtree and around the 2 minute mark “Iron” Dan stuns Terrill with a hard over hand right, only to maneuver with his stellar footwork putting him in perfect position to deliver a text book shovel hook to the liver, left hook to the head, simultaneously slipping 2 jabs thrown by Terrill, only to flatten him with a perfectly timed straight right hand that blew up like a bomb in the face of the super game Terrill. To everyone’s surprise, “Irish” Danny managed to get right back to his feet after rolling nearly head over heel. Crabtree smelled blood in the water and went for the kill as he left off a volley of power punches coming from all angles. Terrill manages to survive the round only to be dropped again within 30 seconds of the 3rd round, struggled to his feet, only to be put down and out with left hook, right hand off the ropes putting an end to the contest at 1:18 of the 3rd round. SS fight writers caught up with “Iron” Dan moments after his victory, here’s what he had to say, “I’m glad to have put on a great performance and to have pleased the North Bergen boxing fans the way I did, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t a shock to me or my team as we prepared very hard for this fight as we do in all others. I’d like to Thank my team for negotiating the best deal possible, Rich Komissar, and Tommy Gallagher for giving me the opportunity to shine. “Irish” Danny Terrill is a very game opponent, I’m sure he’ll do well with the rest of his career. Last but not least, I’d like to Thank my fans, friends and family for their support. I plan to take the weekend off and get right back in the gym Monday morning in preparation for my next bout which is against Aaron Lucky at the Horseshoe Casino, in Hammond, Indiana on the undercard of none other than Eric “Butterbean” Esch on January 13th.” And to our good friend Mr. Kurt Wolfheimer (of the infamous and incredibly inaccurate Fightnews.com) we encourage you sir to view the footage of the bout in question in which you made a write up for was let’s be honest, rife with errors so egregious you were unable to distinguish right from left as you falsely credited Crabtree three times with having “a south-paw stance”. Allow us to correct you sir, at no time, I repeat at no time did “Iron” Dan Crabtree brandish a south-paw stance. We encourage you sir to take a little more pride in your work, I mean after all, these guys put their lives on the line on a routine basis to try to better their lives and give you something to write about, the least you could do is get it right!
Making his Pro debut, was Hilliard, Ohio’s Dominique “Daimyo” Foster taking on Thomas Baldwin (2-0-2) of Brooklyn,New York. Baldwin was coming off a hard fought draw from more than a year ago and had a world class trainer Tommy Brooks in his corner. Dominique Foster was not the least bit intimidated by his opponents amateur pedigree or high profile trainer as he was tremendously focused and immediately went to work establishing his great professional style by jabbing Baldwin at will and remaining calm and measured. Baldwin seemed to realize Foster didn’t get the “script” so to speak and that he’d be in for a real fight. Foster let off his hands in spurts and showed tremendous hand speed while Baldwin settled for the occasional jab followed by a lunging right hand that would nearly almost always miss its mark. Second round, more of the same from Foster, Baldwin began to ride his bicycle and still attempt to pot shot Foster to no avail. The 3rd round Foster began to employ a Philly shell defense in the center of the ring rolling his shoulder deflecting most of the blows that came his way and at about the 2 minute mark, Foster shoulder rolls a Baldwin blow and returns fire with a hard, lighting fast, straight right hand that put Baldwin on his face, referee Earl Morton waved on the action as Baldwin had managed to recover enough to survive the round. The fourth and final round had Baldwin on the horse some more with Foster appearing to loose steam as the bout came to an unclimactic close. And when the decision was announced, one judge had it 37-38 Baldwin , another had it 37-38 Foster and the third judge had scored it a draw. Foster moves to 0-0-1 while Baldwin moves to 2-0-2.
