Sweet Science dominates in Youngstown!
Saturday December 11th, 2010 Team Sweet Science’s amateurs dominated the Youngstown fights in typical fashion and yet again displayed why we are unequivocally the strongest organization in the state! The first combatant to do battle for team SS was the one and only Mikayla Nebel, 3-0 slated to face Jessica Dunlap in the first fight of the night! In the 1st and only round Dunlap wasted no time at the sound of the bell by immediately throwing a plethora of punches that either grazed or missed Nebel entirely, as MK slipped, bobbed, and weaved through the blows and connected with crisp and accurate counter punches that seemed to zap the bravery right out of Dunlap along with her stamina as well, Dunlap seemed discouraged as the round came to a close, likely due to only connecting on an estimated 3 or 4 shots out of what seemed to have been 100 thrown! Nebel on the other hand had a Mayweather like outing as she made her opponent miss and connected with almost everything she threw. Nevertheless Dunlap did not answer the bell to start the 2nd round and retired on her stool! Nebel moves to 3-0 with this stoppage win over Newark’s Jessica Dunlap. 15 year old amateur phenom Miles Delmindo was next in the Sweet Science line up as he faced 17 year old “Downtown” Patrick-Paddy-Brown of Youngstown. Round 1 saw Brown come out from his corner attempting to land hard blows on Delmindo to no avail as it was apparent almost immediately that young Miles was the superior boxer in every way and “Paddy” would be in for a long night. Delmindo blocked and slipped Brown’s punches as he drifted backwards into the ropes and lit Brown up with some fireworks that appeared to have been left over from the 4th of July! Delmindo’s hand speed was blazing as he let off 3 and 4 punch combinations and used foot work that Micheal Jackson would have envied as he bamboozled and baffled Brown until the 1st round came to a close. Round 2 saw young Miles continue giving the strong but outgunned Brown a free boxing lesson as he slipped and evaded almost everything thrown his way and countered with hard and lighting fast punches and when the round ended Brown had a dejected look about him as he walked to his corner. In round 3, Paddy Brown threw shots in desperation as Delmindo continued his onslaught whipping his opponent from pillar to post. And when the decision was rendered the 15 year old Delmindo’s hand was raised in triumph over his 17 year old opponent. Batting “Clean Up” for Sweet Science Boxing was “Iron” Dan Crabtree who engaged in a 3 round battle with Dustin Bates out of Mansfield. The fight began with a brief feeling out period until both men began to pick up the pace with Bates throwing 3 punch combinations and “Iron” Dan slipping and countering with hard uppercuts and left hooks to the body and head that could’ve dropped an elephant. Round 2 saw more of the same from both combatants with Bates running at times and “Iron” Dan cutting off the ring and connecting at will on his game opponent. Round 3 “Iron” Dan appeared to be the fresher of the two boxers as Bates’ mouth was open and seemed fatigued from the valiant effort he put forth but in the end it was not enough as “Iron” Dan was clearly the victor and with the win team Sweet Science swept the card and earned the respect from the rabid fans that were on hand! It was a great night for Boxing and we thank Mr. Chuck Nelson, (father of major professional manager/promoter Pat Nelson) for inviting us and giving us a chance to shine! Team Sweet Science will be in Midland, PA next weekend, details will be posted by mid week.
