On Saturday May 14th , 2011, Russ Niggemyer and “Iron” Dan Crabtree are scheduled to do battle in respective 4 round bouts on an exciting, action packed professional card. Russ Niggemyer 2-1 takes on Wilkins Santiago 2-0 of Loraine, OH, while “Iron” Dan Crabtree 0-1 meets the debuting Darrick Moss 0-0 of Cleveland in an exciting 4 round affair you won’t want to miss! Promoted by LIGHTS OUT PROMOTIONS.

Sweet Science’s Jr. Team competed in the Junior Olympics held at the Douglas Rec center on Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th. Nico Buoni won the tournament unopposed and will advance to the regional tournament in Ann Arbor Michigan. Deacon Sawchuk also won his division unopposed but will not advance to Michigan due to his age. Up first for Sweet Science was the “Prince of Hilliard” Dante’ Ettore who squared off against Zanesville PALs Chris Hastens. Round 1 saw Ettore charge from his corner with “bad intentions” clearly visible in his body language and began laying some serious leather on his larger, more experienced opponent as Hasten’s opted to turn the bout into a brawl by holding and hitting the young Ettore. The Prince became visibly frustrated with his opponent’s dirty tactics and launched a huge overhand right that barely missed its mark and threw the Hilliard fighter off balance as the round came to a close. Round 2 saw more incredibly slick boxing from the Prince as he slipped and blocked most of Hasten’s blows and fired back with clean crisp shots, Hasten continued with his strategy of brawling and roughing up Ettore on the inside ! SSfight writers had Ettore easily winning the round. Round 3 was a carbon copy of the first two rounds with Ettore doing the clean effective boxing as the Zpal fighter held and threw slapping punches. Sad enough when the decision was read the victory was awarded to Chris Hastens. This treatment is nothing new to the Sweet Science stable of fighters and we continue on undaunted as we brush the “haters” off.Dante Ettore was coming off of a “virtuoso performance” in Toledo on Thursday as he beat and battered his game but overmatched opponent for 3 rounds as he cruised to an easy victory ! Representing the jr team next in the line up was Jesse “the bull” Dombroski who was coming off of an impressive win at the brookhaven stop the violence event was pitted against Jawaad Jabbar of Blackburn rec. Dombroski was easily giving up about 7 to 10 inches in height and a year in age but was eager to show his metal nonetheless ! when the first bell sounded Jabbar started pumping his jab to keep the aggressive young bull at bay, while Dombroski displayed fine head movement followed up with powerful overhand rights to the head of Jabbar. Rounds 2 and 3 saw more of the same from both boxers with the Blackburn rec fighter pulling ahead by using his superior size advantage to outbox Dombroski for the win ! It was a valiant effort on the part of young Jesse and the crowd was once again pleased by his tough fan appreciating style. Last but not least was Kevin Lark who was slated to fight Sunday in the Championship round of the senior 139lb class. Lark had just fought earlier in the week in Toledo and was feeling under the weather going into this fight at the Junior Olympics and to make matters worse (in an uncharacteristic move on behalf of Team Sweet Science) there was some miscommunication as to when Mr. Lark’s bout was to take place and he and the team arrived with just enough time to wrap his hands and put his uniform on and no time to properly warm the cold fighter up. Nonetheless, Lark soldiered on and fought hard and brave against a highly skilled, more experienced fighter from Bang ‘Em or Hang ‘Em gym. Round 1, Lark emerged from his corner with a fury, catching his opponent with a variety of hard shots and then Lark’s stamina and energy seemed to fall off a cliff (due to the problems mentioned above) and once the Bang ‘Em or Hang ‘Em warrior caught rhythm, Lark and his corner were unable to stem the tide. The fight was stopped in the first round by the great referee Nate Terry to keep the Sweet Science fighter from receiving anymore unnecessary punishment. Nevertheless, Kevin is a young stallion with unrivaled heart and courage and will use this as a good learning experience as all good fighters do when faced with adversity. Our kids performed very well and we are extremely proud of them! Special Thanks goes out to our sponsors for all their support!
