In Mesquite, Nevada at the National Junior Golden Gloves tournament , Mikayla Nebel, Derrell Gibbs , and J’juan Hamilton were introduced to the Greatest Trainer in the World Roger “The Black Mamba” Mayweather by way of Anthony Sims Jr. ’s mother ( relative of the Mayweather family ). Mikayla Nebel- ” Meeting and talking with Mr. Roger Mayweather was one of the greatest honors I’ve had in my young life. He took time out of his busy schedule training the #1 p4p fighter in the game (and perhaps the best ever!) Floyd Mayweather Jr. to come to the tournament and help out Anthony Sims Jr. and random kids that had no obvious affiliation with him. Mr. Mayweather even invited me to sit down and have dinner with him and having been in a state of awe I foolhardily replied that I had already ate dinner thus missing my opportunity to pick this mans brain even further, I won’t make the same mistake twice! After having been in the presence of this great man I can see why he attracts such a following.” Equally amazing, Derrell Gibbs and J’juan Hamliton were invited to Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s open workout session he held for UK fans for the highly popular series 24/7 that chronicles the fighter’s training and lives leading up to the fight with Victor Ortiz. Derrell Gibbs-” Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a perfectionist , he tried on 12 different pairs of gloves before settling on the ones he wanted to use for his workout.” Upon hearing of their experience Founder and pro Russ Niggemyer said, ” I am extremely jealous that MK, Derrell , and J’juan were granted this great opportunity to be around the royalty of boxing and the #1 team in the game. I Thank the Mayweather’s for being so hospitable to them! I can only imagine how surreal it must have been.” Be sure to check out video of “Uncle” Roger working the mitts and helping out the youth on our video page and exclusive youtube channel ScientificPugilism.

On Saturday July 23rd, 2011 in Mesquite , Nevada , at the National Junior Golden Gloves Young Gunner-Derrell Gibbs won his 5th National Title in the 145lb division against Suray Mahmutovic of California. After a brief feeling out period, the Young Gunner began to unload his arsenal on the much taller but less experienced Mahmutovic establishing control and demonstrating sound ring generalship. Round 2 saw Mahmutovic attempting to measure and find range against the super slick south paw Gibbs with Gibbs showing excellent head movement as he ripped hard shots to the body and head of the California fighter. Round 3 was more of the same with Mahmutovic again unable to find his range as his punch output was clearly stifled by the Gunner’s cagey style and there was little surprise when the decision was rendered as to who won the bout as Derrell “Young Gunner” Gibbs was awarded the victory and brought the Championship Belt back to Columbus! Also competing and came up just short was J’juan ” Don Juan” Hamilton vs Francisco Esparza of Nevada in the 132lb division in a barn burner of a fight that had the crowd on their feet. Round 1 had “Don Juan” establishing his superior, lengthy jab over the shorter Esparza, with Esparza coming forward wanting to brawl on the inside and began using elbows to try to rough up the taller Hamilton. Hamilton became visibly frustrated and was given a standing 8 count for expressing dissatisfaction to the referee. Round 2 had Hamilton boxing well on the outside and on the inside whenever the Nevada fighter was able to close the gap and the brawling Esparza seemed to pick up where he left off in the first round by utilizing elbows. Round 3 saw more toe to toe action from the boys as “Don Juan” left it all in the ring sensing that he would become victim of a home town decision and win the judges scorecards were read Hamilton and Coach MK Nebel suspicions had been confirmed when the Nevada’s fighter’s hand was raised. Russ Niggemyer – ” I was unable to attend the fights in Nevada due to training for my upcoming fight at the Mohegan Sun Casino and am very pleased by the way Mikayla coached and handled herself on the National stage thus proving she’s one of the top female talents in all of Boxing. After having reviewed the film, I am immensely proud of the way our two young lions performed, both Hamilton and Gibbs displayed outstanding boxing skill and represented our gym and city with class. Congrats to these young warriors!” You can watch Young Gunner and Don Juan’s fights on the videos tab or on our highly popular youtube channel ScientificPugilism.
